Founder and Medical Director
Dr. Sambunaris is Founder and Medical Director of the Institute for Advanced Medical Research (formerly the Atlanta Institute of Medicine & Research) and the Institute for Veterans Health. He also serves as a clinical faculty member at Mercer University’s School of Pharmacy.
Dr. Sambunaris previously directed psychiatric clinical research for Bayer Pharmaceuticals and Solvay Pharmaceuticals in the areas of anxiety and depression. He has been a principal investigator in more than 200 studies on the treatment of anxiety, depression, insomnia, and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as research in adult and adolescent ADHD, smoking cessation, migraine headaches, and personality disorders.
Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Masand joined the Institute in 2014. He is also Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Global Medical Education (GME). Dr. Masand previously served as Consulting Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University Medical Center. He also served as Director of Therapeutic Area Development, Neurosciences Medicine at the Duke Clinical Research Institute.
Dr. Masand was named a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine. His clinical research interests include psychopharmacology, novel antipsychotics, psychiatric disorders in the medically ill, treatment-resistant depression, irritable bowel syndrome and its relationship to psychiatric illness, and the use of psychostimulants in the medically ill.
